Nicholas John Bates

Nicholas John Bates, 28, Indianapolis, passed away October 13, 2021. He was born in Indianapolis to Teddy Lee and Julia Lea Bennett Bates. Nick graduated from Cathedral High School in 2011, before going on to attend Ivy Tech and Eleven Fifty Academy for computer science. He loved spending time with his family and assisting in the care of his father, who had several medical needs. In addition to being an avid sports fan, he also loved his two cats. In his youth, he played baseball, basketball, and lacrosse. He continued to enjoy golf, scuba diving, frisbee golf, travel, and fishing. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help those in need. Nick loved entertaining his two nieces.
Survivors include his parents, sisters, Nicole (Shane) McElwee and Natalie (Kenneth Carey) Bates, nieces, Ciara and Ellen McElwee, and grandparents, John and Kathryn McCreary.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday October 23, 2021 at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis, from 2:30pm – 3:00pm. A memorial service will begin there at 3:00pm. Online condolences may be shared at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
