Neal B Mcferron

May 6, 1943 — March 8, 2018

Quincy, Indiana

Rev. Neal Bradford McFerron, age 74, of Quincy, Indiana, passed from this earth, to his heavenly home, surrounded by his family, early in the morning of Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis, IN.

Neal was born in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, on the 6th day in May, 1943, to Fred and Zora McFerron, along with brother Norman McFerron, and sister Lois McFerron (Addair) who preceded him in death.

At the age of 7, Neal, his parents, along with his siblings, moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, which would prove to be a pivotal moment in the young man’s life.

It was during his residency in Indianapolis, as a seventh grade student at school number 59 in the city, that he met the love of his life, Fredonna Marlene Stevens.  As she gazed across the room at her future husband whom she would later describe as “dreamy” a connection was made that would result in not only a joining in holy matrimony on the 19th day of September, 1959, but also a creation of a wonderful loving family, and a legacy that is still unfolding.

In 1975, Neal and Fredonna along with their growing family that would eventually consist of 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, relocated to the little town of Quincy, Indiana.

Reverend McFerron was an ordained and licensed minister of the Church of God of Prophecy, and at the time of his departure from this earth, a member of the Riverside Church Of God of Prophecy in Spencer, IN, as well as a retired machine operator, at Allison’s Transmissions in Indianapolis, IN.   During his time in his congregational ministry, he served as pastor of two separate flocks.  One in Terre Haute and the other in Shelburn, IN.

But Neal’s burden and his ministry didn’t end with his resignation of the pastoralship of these two churches.  Driven by a burning burden to tell everyone that he met of his personal relationship with Jesus Christ, he sought out the sick, the shut ins and the terminally ill by continuing his ministry in the rehabilitation, nursing and convalescent care centers, near his home.

Sundays, Wednesday and Friday evenings, one would find Reverend McFerron singing and playing his guitar, and sharing the word of God with the residents of these communities, leading many of them to salvation in what was likely some of their weakest, and most vulnerable moments.

You couldn’t meet Neal and spend even five minutes with the man, without him sharing his passion for his Savior with you.  He not only encouraged others to imitate the life of the God that he served, but provided an example with his personal behavior, of what a true Christ follower should be.

Reverend McFerron is survived by the following siblings.  Margaret (McFerron) Cooper and her husband Larry, Etta (McFerron) Johnson with her husband Richard, Ruth (McFerron) Berry, and brother Freddie McFerron along with his wife Tonya all of Indianapolis, IN, as well as his children and their spouses, Melinda (McFerron) Kelsey and Stuart Kelsey of Orlando, FL, James McFerron of Cloverdale, IN, Tony and Debbie McFerron of Quincy, IN, Brenda (McFerron) Roberts and Timothy Roberts of Bloomington, IN, along with Vince and Carla McFerron, of Grayson, KY, grandchildren Crystal and Troy Hirsch of Houston, TX, Jason and Nela Duprat of Albuquerque, NM, Natasha Duprat of Tampa, FL, Darlene Duprat-Davis and Sean Davis of Buffalo, NY, Jacob and Michelle McFerron of Greencastle, IN, Austin McFerron of Greencastle, IN, Bridget McFerron of Brownsburg, IN, Cory Clark of Bloomington, IN, as well as 12 great grandchildren and more friends than can be counted.

Services will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township, located at 5463 Kentucky Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46221.

Visitation will be Monday the 12th day of March, 2018, between the hours of 4 and 8 in the evening, with a service celebrating his life, at the same location, Tuesday the 13th day of March, 218, at 10 in the morning.
