Nathaniel Anderson, Sr.

Nathaniel Anderson Sr. affectionately known as “Big Nate” was born on January 30, 1933. Nathaniel was born to his parents McKinelly and Leneier Curtis Anderson. He was the second to last born of his siblings. He accepted Christ in his life. He was born, raised, and lived in Indianapolis, Indiana throughout his life. He received his education from the Indianapolis Public School system where he attended School #4 and Crispus Attucks High School.

Nathaniel was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Big Nate was not only a remarkable man in every aspect, he was also an Entrepreneur. He provided housing and job opportunities for many people. He was very well respected in his neighborhood where he resided for over 50 years. He touched anybody who came into his life including being a father figure to numerous people around the community. Nathaniel was known around the community for his famous pot of chili.

Nathaniel was a hard working man. He was employed at Highgrade Meat Processing for 20 years before becoming employed with General Motors. He worked at General Motors for 32 years before he retired from the company. In his retirement, Nate enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and neighborhood friends. Nathaniel enjoyed playing checkers, especially with his buddy, Dave Wilburn. Nathaniel would sit and watch his westerns. He loved to watch sports and place a friendly bet. Big Nate enjoyed sitting on his porch and playing music.

Mr. Nathaniel Anderson graciously transitioned in his home surrounded by love on September 01, 2024 at the blessed age of 91 years, 7 months, and 2 days. His parents, his late wife Joyce Anderson; sister in law, Charlene Smith; brother in law, Larry Tucker; as well as his eight siblings: Tuck Haynes, Arthur Haynes, Skylar Haynes, Emerson Haynes, R.L. Haynes, Will Haynes, Harvey Anderson. Alfred Anderson, and Bertha Mae Fitzgerald, his two sons: Kevin Elmore and Larry Anderson preceded him in death.

Nathaniel will be greatly missed by his sister in law: Doris Tucker and Rosie Anderson; His sons: Nathaniel Anderson Jr (Sharia), James (BeBe) Burnett (Odella), Andre Anderson, Damon Rowie-Anderson (Toscha), David Anderson, Keith Elmore (Judy), Tyrone Anderson, Anthony Tucker (Toiannette), Anthony Anderson, Andy Anderson (Denise), Keith Elmore; His daughters: Rogina Anderson. Donna Langford (Eddie), Johnetta Davis (Freddie), Natalie Anderson, and Tanya Mitchell; 34 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan - Floral Park from 11am to 1pm. The funeral service for Mr. Nathaniel Anderson will begin promptly at 1pm with burial immediately following at Floral Park Cemetery.
