Naomi L Anderson 79, of Westfield, died March 9, 2023.
She was born near Los Angeles, CA on December 7, 1943, the 3rd child of Archie and Barbara (Lee) Gilbertson.
At the end of WWII, the family moved back to Minnesota settling in Peterson and eventually, Winona. After high school, she attended Winona State where she received her degree and met the great love of her life, James. Naomi and Jim married in 1967. After moving to Carmel she returned to teaching when her youngest started school in the fall of 1980. She taught at Mohawk Trails, Forest Dale and ended up at Woodbrook Elementary teaching Kindergarten there for the last 25 years of her career. She retired from teaching in 2009, just in time to become a grandmother.
Naomi was a longtime member of St Luke’s UMC in Indianapolis and happily joined their choir after she retired. She had many hobbies including antique doll collecting, playing bridge with friends at the Indianapolis Bridge Club, taking road trips and more recently, becoming a gourmet cook. She was an expert level shopper, known for her epic flower garden and knack for finding the best happy hours in town.
She is survived by her children: Tim, Kristina (Darryl) Schriner, Jenna (Bill) Lightcap and grandson, James Schriner. Sisters in law Joannie Gilbertson and Toni Anderson. Nieces Janie (Scott) Sukut, Wendi (Bruce) Schneider and Lori (Joe) Brandon, Nephews Jim and Tim (Vi) Michaelis. Beloved dogs Nikki and Archie and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, brothers, niece and nephew.
Visitation for Naomi will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 2 PM to 4 PM at Flanner Buchanan Mortuaries – Carmel, 325 E Carmel Dr., Carmel, Indiana 46032, followed immediately by a service of remembrance at 4 PM.
