Naomi E. Jackson January 11, 1930 – June 12, 2017

Naomi E. Jackson, 87, of Indianapolis, IN passed away peacefully in the loving care of Hospice on Monday evening, June 12, 2017, at IU Hospital West in Indianapolis.
Naomi is survived by her children Jackie (Rick) Weedon, Somerset, KY, Judy (Jeff) Hanlin, Russell Springs, KY, Belinda (Chet) Miles, Mount Carmel, IL, Harold Jackson, Greenwood, Jodee (Chris) Lawson, Morgantown, Michele Rees, Indianapolis, and Betsy (Chuck) Hyder, Davis, CA.
Her siblings include Treva Hankins, Grapevine, Tx., Delores Prall, Indianapolis and David (Eileen) Scott, Indianapolis. Naomi was blessed with large numbers of grandchildren: Twenty grandchildren located from coast to coast, thirty-one great-grand children, and nine great-great grandchildren (with number ten on the way!).
Naomi had a large extended family. She is survived by her niece Wanda (Jim) Weatherford, Brownsburg, as well as many other nieces, nephews and their children. The Weatherford family was especially helpful to Naomi over the years.
She was preceded in death by husband, Jack (2001) son, Bryan Hirt (2009) and daughter, Beverly Jones-Steele (2016).
Naomi was born in Lilydale, TN and moved to Indianapolis with her family at age twelve. She was a long time resident of the West side of Indianapolis and an employee of Kroger for forty years. She was a familiar face to the community during ‘checkout’ at the West Washington Street store. Naomi served as a UFCW representative for many years while at Kroger. After retirement in 1990, Naomi channeled her energy into strong advocacy for U.S. military veterans, especially disable veterans. She was a highly recognized volunteer for over twenty-five years at the VA Hospital and spent countless hours fundraising for the hospital’s needs. In addition, she served as Indiana’s State President for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, District President and is a current member at Post #1111, Mooresville. She is also a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #505 Lynhurst where she was a member for over forty years. In more recent years, Naomi enjoyed , the snow-bird life in Port Richie, FL with her beloved shiatsu Susie and the neighbors of her retirement community there.
