Naoma M. Keith, 86, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away surrounded by her family on November 30, 2018. She was born February 15, 1932 in Scottsville, Kentucky to Ed and Annie Chandler; one of twelve children.
At the age of only eight, Naoma attended a church revival with her family; it was there she accepted the Lord into her life. She sealed the commitment the following day as she was baptized with her sister. Naoma also met the love of her life, JD Keith, during childhood. The two would marry September 18, 1950 at the age of 18, and spend 54 beautiful years together raising their seven children. They remained very deeply in love at the time of JD’s passing on April 5, 2005. She was a lifetime homemaker, as were most women of her generation, cherishing the time spent raising her family. She often showed her love with food, preparing three meals a day; meals family will not soon forget, especially her banana pudding, chili, or her famous biscuits with chocolate gravy. She loved shopping, entertaining company, and doting on her grandchildren. Her passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of those who were blessed enough to meet her; peace can be found in knowing she knew the Lord and we will all see her again one day.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Annie Chandler; siblings, Maxie Chandler, Eugene Chandler, James Merle, Doris Williams, Wanda De’Saliva, Lois Kizer, Madeline Woods, Leah Sikes, and Marvine Sikes. Surviving to cherish her memory are children, Melvin Keith, Dwight Keith, Garry (Patricia) Keith, Stephen (Karen) Keith, David (Joan) Keith, Timothy (April) Keith, and Leona Keith; siblings, Marvin Elwood and Brenda Thomas; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family members.
Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, December 5 from 11-1 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park, 425 N. Holt Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222. Funeral services will begin at 1 PM. Naoma will be laid to rest at Floral Park Cemetery immediately following services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Indiana Parkinson Foundation, 14350 Mundy Drive Suite 800 #181, Noblesville, IN 46060. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home for contributions.
