Nancy Kay Warstler

Nancy Kay Hardy Warstler passed away peacefully Sunday evening in her Carmel home. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, John and Phyllis Hardy, and is survived by her children Tobie Warstler, Charlie Warstler, Betsy Edmondson Morgan and grandchildren Annie Yorgen, and Malik and Lizzie Morgan. Born in Indianapolis on March 10, 1951 and raised by John and Phyllis Hardy with principles of grace and dignity, Nancy was an intelligent, witty, motivated and energetic woman who saw her true calling in having and supporting her own family. Nancy and Steve married and had two children: Tobie and Charlie, truly the loves and centers of her life. In 1986, they moved to Zionsville where Nancy made her children her priority, which included moving Betsy Edmondson into their home and into the family. Nancy would always be found at all the extracurricular events of her children: horseback riding and the Indiana Hunter and Jumper Association, hockey, and all school events. She enjoyed being with her kids and their friends, who frequently came to the house. Nancy had an artistic eye for design, as evidence by the beautiful homes she created and maintained for her family. Nancy was just as involved in her grandchildren’s lives as she was with her children. The proud and ever-adoring grandmother enjoyed seeing Annie become as passionate about horses as her mother, Tobie, did. Nancy was also a sports fan, but seeing her grandson Malik play basketball made Nancy fiercely proud. She enjoyed being able to hear her granddaughter Lizzie sing. Without a doubt, Nancy was most proud of the single most important thing in her life- her family. Over the past few years, as Nancy battled with cancer, she embraced her precious time with her children together and individually. She enjoyed walks with the dog, visiting the horse farm, traveling everywhere she wanted to go, smiling, loving, laughing and hugging her children. Always an inviting woman, Nancy was kind and friends with all she met. Her lightheartedness, sense of humor and contagious laugh always made you smile and want to be around her. Her ability to listen, empathize and her deep sense of compassion is what enabled so many to want to have deep, long-lasting friendships with Nancy. You could always count on Nancy to be there when you needed her. Nancy was passionate about animals and helping others. She was an avid supporter and volunteer of ICAN rescue and St. Jude’s Hospital. In her free time she enjoyed flower arranging, decorating, fashion, reading, traveling, seeing movies and spending time with family and friends. Visitation will be on Friday, November 18 from 4-7 PM at Flanner and Buchanan- Zionsville, 105 W. Pine Street, Zionsville, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts in Nancy’s honor be made to Indiana Canine Assistant Network or the Hamilton County Humane Society. Tobie, Charlie, and Betsy make the following tribute in honor of their mother: Mom was a woman of devote loving kindness and care who never met a stranger. Raised with grace and dignity at the center of her life, mom always found the best qualities in others and had a way to make these qualities shine. Mom was adopted by John and Phyllis Hardy, as was a gift to those closest to her. Mom wanted to make her life career as a supportive wife and where she shined the most as our mother. She was such an amazing woman that she wanted Betsy to join our home, and our family, and to raise us all together. Our mom was involved in all of our lives and activities as part of the horse riding community, and as a hockey mom. She could walk in a room and by the end of the evening she would have touched the hearts of each person she met. She loved learning everything about everyone and she always remembered every detail! Our mother battled illnesses for many years, and in the end she passed away holding the hand of her daughter. She will be missed, her smile, her soft tone and her genuinely open heart.
