Nancy J. Engledow

January 1, 1932 — November 14, 2018

Carmel, Indiana

Nancy J. Engledow, 86 of Carmel, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018.  Nancy was born January 1, 1932 in Indianapolis to the late Bill and Martha Parker Hastings.  She was a 1949 graduate of Broad Ripple High School and a 1953 graduate of Butler University.

In her early career, Nancy was a substitute teacher for Indianapolis Public Schools and worked in Pre-School at Ft. Leonard Wood. She later served as Sunday School superintendent and teacher at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church.  The family later moved to Bloomington where Nancy found herself managing the lives of four active kids and supporting Jack in his quest for a doctorate at the IU School of Business.

When the family returned to Carmel, Nancy became a skilled decorative painter, which she also taught.  Her artwork, purchased at various craft shows, graces many homes throughout the area.  She was part owner of the Brass Lamp, a craft store in Noblesville, for a number of years.

Her real pride and joy was always her kids and grandkids.  She reveled in their frequent visits and loved observing their activities and their growth as they matured and became productive adults.  Each can tell stories about how Mom and Grandma affected their lives in fun and positive ways.  The great grandkids have been a late-life blessing.  For years, Grandma painted an original Christmas tree decoration for each grandchild and it seemed she knitted much valued washcloths for the family, friends and half the Northside.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday, November 18 at Flanner Buchanan-Carmel.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, November 19 at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church.  Burial will follow at Carmel Cemetery.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack; children, Jim (wife, Elaine) Engledow, Sue Engledow, Beth Knapik and Mike (wife, Jenni) Engledow; grandchildren, Eric (wife, Nasha) Engledow, Craig (wife, Laura) Engledow, Kirk Engledow, Sarah (fiancée, Tony Davey) Knapik, Rachel Engledow, Maddie Engledow, Jack M. Engledow; great grandchildren, Caleb Essick, Sophie Engledow, Claire Engledow, Henry Engledow, Avery Engledow, Sydney Engledow; sister, Marianne (husband, Ron) Krasson.  In all, a beautiful life, well lived: amazing life partner, beloved Mom, Grandma and “Gigi”, successful artist and an all-round fine person with many good friends.  Good job Nancy, and God Speed.
