Nancy E. Hines

November 17, 1938 — November 1, 2022

Indianapolis, Indiana

Nancy E. Hines, 83, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed from this life on November 1, 2022. Born in Jasper, Indiana on November 17, 1938, Nancy was the daughter of the late Ambrose “Boots” and Naomi (Krodel) Gutgsell. She dedicated much of her life to serving others, raising awareness for Breast and Ovarian Cancer, and spending time with her large, vibrant family.
Nancy dedicated over 40 years of her life as a realtor, with a majority of that time being for the F. C. Tucker Company, where she retired from in 2020. She was very community minded throughout her life and was constantly giving back through volunteering, so much so that Nancy was awarded the National Association of Realtors “Good Neighbor Award” in 2015 for all of her community work.
A very knowledgeable and avid football fan, Nancy followed Notre Dame, Cathedral High School, and the Indianapolis Colts where she was a season ticket holder for 38 years. She could talk game strategy and player stats with the best of them while also having the jewelry and outfits to match!
Nancy was a four-time cancer survivor and one of the three founders of Ovar’Coming together, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for women diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer through survivor support, education, and advocacy. There was truly nothing Nancy couldn’t do, and her positivity brought hope to everyone she encountered. Aside from her career accomplishments, Nancy was a very social and outgoing woman, always on the go and ready for anything. From card club with her closest girlfriends, lasting over 40 years, to more recently running back and forth between her grandchildren’s extracurricular activities, Nancy always made sure to spend time with those she loved.
Lastly, but certainly not the least, Faith was an important pillar in Nancy’s life, demonstrated by her lifelong commitment to Mass, involvement in the Church, and sending her children to Catholic elementary schools. Nancy herself attended St. John Academy, graduating in 1956, and was an active member of the St. John Alumni Association until her passing. Nancy touched so many lives, was dearly loved, and will be missed by so many. Her smile is one that will not be soon forgotten.
Nancy is survived by her loving children Michael P. (Beth) Hines, Patricia Anne Hines, Ann Margaret Hines McKinley, and Joseph Michael Hines; grandchildren Alexandra McKinley, Nicholas McKinley, Maria Hines; sister Deborah (Pat) Rodgers and brother Charles (Gail) Gutgsell, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Charles Patrick Hines; son Thomas Ambrose Hines (infant), and sister Sharon (John) O’Hara.
