Nancy Carolyn (Abney) Alexander, 91, died on Wednesday October 6, 2021 at her home in Greenwood Village South, Greenwood, IN. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years Raymond Louis Alexander who died January 11, 2021. Nancy leaves behind her children Carol Bossingham (Don), Janet Foltz, and John Alexander (Karen); seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edna (York) Abney, her sister Judith Doell (Leonard) and her brother Richard Abney.

Nancy was born February 17, 1930 in Hammond, Indiana. She graduated from Hammond High School in 1948 and from Indiana Central College (now the University of Indianapolis) in 1952. She spent her entire teaching career working in the Perry Township School system, beginning as a sixth grade teacher at Edgewood Elementary School in 1952. Nancy married the love of her life, Ray, on April 11, 1953. She stayed home to raise her family from 1958 to 1973. Nancy earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Butler University in 1971 and returned to Edgewood in 1973. When the school closed in 1980, Nancy moved to Clinton Young Elementary School to teach fourth grade. She retired in 1989. Nancy attended University Heights United Methodist Church where she was active in volunteer work, including Better Indy Babies.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Flanner & Buchanan with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9350 E Washington St, Indianapolis IN 46229. Due to pandemic concerns there will be no public visitation or service.
