Nancy Anne Williams

Nancy Anne (Wilson) Williams, 96, of Indianapolis, passed away April 21, 2020. She was born January 30, 1924, in Indianapolis to Claude Delano Wilson and Mary Charlotte (Mayme) Hamann-Wilson.

Nancy grew up in Indianapolis and attended Ralph Waldo Emerson, School #58. She was a member of the first graduation class of Howe High School in 1942. For several years, she was a member of the Irvington Methodist Church.  In 1944, Nancy was a volunteer with the Liberty Belles local chapter of the USO (United Service Organization).  They would host dances and socials with the servicemen and soldiers. She was known to be a good jitterbug dancer.

On October 22, 1955, Nancy married a wonderful man, Raymond James Williams, at Holy Cross Church in Indianapolis. They spent 44 years together before Raymond passed away June 12th, 1999.

For many years, Nancy worked as a stenographer at the Indianapolis Water Company. Later in life, she was an associate at the first Lazarus in Indianapolis where she earned many “Red Apple” Customer Service awards.

Nancy was a lively lady with many interests. She was an active Brownie Leader and Room Mom when her daughter was young. She participated on a ladies bowling league for a number of years.  Nancy and her husband enjoyed spending time and traveling with friends. She followed fashion and took pride in her appearance including her love of jewelry.  Nancy enjoyed the arts and music- in her younger years she attended performances of big bands, Frank Sinatra, and Lucille Ball.  In her later years, she took interest in history , following pop culture such as the Royal families, and old Hollywood movies.  She was also a supporter of the Humane Society having owned many kitties during her time.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Nicole (Randal) Howard and one granddaughter Ellery (Chad) Beard.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Williams, one sister Helen (Ivan) Knabb, and many loving members of the Williams family.
