Obituary for Mr. Wenhui Zhu

September 9, 1927 – October 3, 2024

Mr. Wenhui Zhu peacefully passed on October 3, 2024 at the age of 97. Mr. Zhu was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Zhu was born on September 9th, 1927, in Hangzhou. He was the son of Guanghua Zhu and Wenxian King. He was the youngest of five brothers and the elder of two sisters. Wenhui attended the Lester Institute in Shanghai and the Lingliang Church, where he met his future wife.

Mr. Zhu graduated from Jinling University in Nanjing with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. After graduation, Wenhui married Yu Huaizhen and had one son and two daughters.

Mr. Zhu had a distinguished career as a physics teacher at the People’s School. As a teacher, Wenhui was diligent and responsible, making an impact on his students in and out of the classroom. Later, he continued to make an impact on his community by teaching English to neighbors, hosting weekly Bible studies, and supporting overseas missionary work through the Chinese Community Church of Indianapolis.

Outside of the classroom, Mr. Zhu enjoyed hunting, playing the harmonica, riding his bike, eating his favorite foods (moon and rice cakes), and spending time with his grandchildren. Wenhui was a member of the Chinese Community Church of Indianapolis, where he hosted weekly Bible study. 

Wenhui is survived by two sisters (Wenying Zhu and Wenqiu Zhu), his son (Songde Zhu), two daughters (Quande Zhu and May Chu), five grandchildren (Maria Wei, Nathaniel Zhu, Alec Yu, Jessica Zhu, and Abigail Yu), and one great-grandson (Landon Weige).

Wenhui was preceded in death by his wife, Huaizhen Yu. He was also preceded by his four brothers and parents.

A celebration of Wenhui’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 9th at 10:00 AM at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North (2706 Kessler Blvd W Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46228). In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider donating to the Chinese Community Church of Indianapolis in Wenhui’s memory.

Though our hearts are heavy with the loss of Wenhui, we find comfort in the cherished memories we shared. He touched the lives of all who knew him, and his kindness, love, and laughter will forever remain in our hearts. May he rest in peace and may we carry his light with us always.
