Monica Marlene McKinley 87, entered into eternal life on Friday, January 27, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born September 5, 1935, in Beaver Meadows, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Stiber) Shutovich. Monica was preceded in death by her older sister Joan (Joanie) McKinley, and her husband Robert (Bobby) of 46 years. She is survived by her younger brother Norman, (Barbara) Sutton of Pennsylvania, daughter Sharon McKinley, grandson Nickolas McKinley of Speedway, Indiana, as well as many nieces, and nephews.
She grew up in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Hazelton High School in 1953. After graduating, she worked for several years as an elevator operator, and sales associate at Deisroth’s Department Store in downtown Hazelton. She met her husband Bobby in the summer of 1956, and they married on November 25, 1961, at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Freeland, Pennsylvania. Monica and Bobby then relocated to Buffalo, New York, and lived there from 1961-1972, then moved to Anderson, Indiana and lived there from 1972 until present.
Before retiring in 1993, Monica worked for 23 years at Isabelle Harter House as a dietary and residential staff, providing meals and care to the residents. Monica was a woman with a sharp tongue and feisty personality. Known for her great sense of fashion and style, she could always take command of a room with her no-nonsense attitude.
Monica was a devout Catholic, enjoyed traveling with Bobby, was an avid reader, college, and professional football fan, and enjoyed caring for dogs and cats. Especially her cats, Petie, Little Mister, and Grayson. She adored Sharon’s golden retrievers Buddy and Wrigley, and cats Evie, and Fuzzyman.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all staff, doctors, nurses, therapists, and directors of Harrison Terrace for providing exceptional support and care over the last two years to Monica. They were instrumental in caring for her changing stages of dementia and ongoing medical needs. A special thank you to her physicians, Dr. Andrew Johnstone M.D. and Dr. Nicolas Priscu M.D. for providing care to Monica, Sharon and Nick over the years.
