Mona "Joan" Durham

Mona “Joan” Durham, 94 years of age, stepped on a rainbow and went to be with our Lord on January 2, 2021. She was born in Boswell (Benton County) Indiana on April 19, 1926 to George Lamb and Laurabell (Reed) Lamb.

After graduating from Attica High School, she went to work in Washington D.C. for the war effort. Returning to Indiana she settled in Indianapolis, Indiana where she met her husband of 52 years, Jack Durham, dancing at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. They were married June 12, 1949.

She worked at NK Hurst Bean Company as a bookkeeper and later Southside Cold storage.

Joan was a member of Olive Branch Christian Church in Indianapolis and a past member of the Eastern Star. She and her husband attended the First Presbyterian church of Port Charlotte with their daughter and son-in-law, after moving to Florida.

They lived in Indianapolis until 1995 when they decided to stop snow-birding and move permanently to Port Charlotte, Fl. During their retirement years they enjoyed traveling, cruising, and attending Navy and High School reunions. In her later years, Joan was an avid crocheter and needle pointer. She also enjoyed reading Danielle Steele novels. Joan was affectionally called “MoJo” by her Florida family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents George and Laurabell Lamb; three brothers: CJ (Marjorie); Maurice (Jean), Paul; three sisters: Mary Louise, Sarah Elizabeth, and Maxine (Robert) Beasley; and one grandson: John Michael Durham.

She is survived by her three Children: Diana (Warren) Smith of Port Charlotte, FL; Steven Durham, and Michael (Debbie) Durham of Indianapolis; 4 grandchildren: Emily Smith, Melania (Antoine) Hollis, Brian (Amanda) Durham and John Steven Durham; 5 Great grandchildren : Gavin Huey; Jared, Joey, and Johnathon Durham; and Jacob Steinhart; one great-great daughter Freya; a sister Shirley Joyner of Clarksville, Arkansas and a brother Robert (Julie) Lamb of Indiana.

Joan will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery, next to her husband.
