Mona was born in Indianapolis, the seventh child born to James and Rosa Bell Jamison Toliver. She attended Indianapolis public schools and graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1956. She was gifted in music and was active in music programs in school.
In August of 1958, she married Norvell Donel. To this union were born three children, Cynthia, Robert, and Narva.
Mona spent much of her working life employed at the Army Finance and Accounting Center, Enlisted Records and Evaluation Center. She was dedicated to her work and received many commendations. She retired in February of 1995 after more than 30 years of service. In retirement, she enjoyed singing at church, mall walking, working in her yard, and visiting riverboat casinos. She was a member of Covenant Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norvell, her parents, James and Rosa Bell, and her siblings James, Harold, Donald, Ramon, Mary, Charles, and Roselyn. She is survived by her brother William (Billy) Toliver of Inglewood, California; children Cynthia (Vincent) Harrington of Indianapolis, Robert of Jacksonville, Florida, and Narva (Thomas) Hoeffken of Cypress, California. She also leaves to cherish her memory granddaughters Alycia Gibson, Angelene, Breanna, and Cheyanne Hoeffken, bonus grandsons Austin and Justin Harrington, great-grandchildren Aicyla, Aliya, Emmet, and Ellias, and great-great-granddaughter Stormi and a host of nieces and nephews, friends and care partners.
