Mildred E. Parkhurst of Carmel, IN, and formerly Zionsville, IN and Naperville, IL, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born in Lebanon, IN, on January 19, 1928, to parents, John William and Gladys (Davis) Burress.
She is the beloved mother of Thomas (Sandra) Dixon and Cynthia (Marty) McHale; loving grandmother of Caitlyn Dixon, Troy (Reveca) Bevil and Heather Becker and great-grandmother to Alex and Owen Becker. There are nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews that also survive. Special mention is to be made to her caregivers Ernie, Sharon and Nurse Bola and the entire nursing staff at Woodland Terrace.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Dixon; her second husband, Don Parkhurst; her parents; siblings, Alberta DeLong and Joseph William Burress; and grandson Ron Bevil II.
Mildred (aka Millie or Mid) retired from Amoco Research Laboratory in Naperville, IL, as an administrative assistant. When she was younger, she worked in the same capacity for the Shell Oil Company in Zionsville, IN. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi service sorority for many years and enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, golf and listening to music. She also enjoyed talking to and being with her companion Don Bear and her lifelong friends: Rose Buechler, Norma Scott, Maurine Brewer, Marilyn Foster, Olly Anderson, Ruth Reeder and Betty Patterson.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 10am until 12pm, September 30, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel (325 E. Carmel Dr. Carmel, IN). A Funeral Service will be held at 12pm, Monday, September 30, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel. Burial will follow funeral service at Lincoln Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Anchor of Hope Hospice, the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy or the Glaucoma Foundation.
