He was born on July 18, 1954 in Vincennes, the son of Joseph Paul and Mary Patricia (Patty) Liter Schmidt.

On May 5, 1978 he married the love of his life, Kathleen Mulry, in Indianapolis and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2024.

Mike attended St. John grade school and graduated from Rivet High School with the class of 1972. He went on to Indiana State University, graduating with a Bachelor degree in Management. While at Rivet he was a basketball statistician, on the yearbook staff and as editor, and participated in Choir.

His career included work as controller at several corporations in Indianapolis and became a Certified Financial Manager with the National Center for Housing Management. He retired in 2017 from Stenz Management of Indianapolis as controller.

He enjoyed his flower garden, listening to music, attending concerts, watching the Pacers and Colts, and especially traveling with Kathy. Together, over the years they rescued numerous homeless dogs and cats, providing loving care. He was known for his ever-present smile and easygoing laugh.

A private celebration of life will be held later. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Christian Education Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East.
