Michael R. Young

Michael R. Young, 81, of Brownsburg, IN passed away at home on Tuesday January 10, 2023, with his family at this side.

Mike was born in Indianapolis on February 6, 1941, to Bernard and Marie (Grove) Young and was one of three siblings. He attended Arsenal Tech High School where he graduated and started working for the Wm. F. Freije Company. Mike became a self-made mechanical engineer and his career spanned 57 years, working for only two companies, before retiring in 2016.

On April 10, 1959, he married the love of his life Norma (Dickerson) Young and together they raised three sons in the town of Brownsburg, IN. Mike enjoyed family and friends and his doors were always open to visitors.

Mike’s true passion was the outdoors and in his spare time could be found camping, boating, hunting, or fishing. He would spend countless hours meticulously planning the weekend and vacation trips that he and his wife Norma took throughout the year. Mike cherished and talked about the trips to the numerous National Parks out west after his retirement. His goal was to visit as many as possible and he attempted to take one “big” trip each year. When not traveling, Mike often relaxed on his back porch watching the birds, squirrels, and the other wildlife that were drawn to the feeders he kept full in his backyard.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, Mike is survived by his wife Norma of 63-years, sons Michael (Mike), Charles (Chuck) and Bradley (Brad), brother Paul, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his father Bernard, his mother Marie and brother Jim.

Services will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd W Drive, Indianapolis, IN, 46228. Visitation will be on Wednesday January 18 from 10 am to 12 pm. Service will begin at 12 pm He will be laid to rest at Washington Park North Cemetery.
