Michael LeRoy McGrath, age 76 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Tuesday morning, December 31, 2024 with his loving wife by his side.
“Mike” was born on March 19, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, a son and only child of Arthur Francis and Lorraine Louise (Copeland) McGrath. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He married Lucetta Boyd on June 12, 1999 in Reelsville, Indiana. He is survived by his wife of 25 years: Lucy McGrath of Indianapolis.
He is also survived by his daughter: Mikki (husband Shane) Maple of Pendleton, Indiana, and son: Brian (wife Jamie) McGrath of Southport, Indiana.
Stepson: Jon (wife Sonya Boyd) and stepdaughter: Lindsey Aytes of Indianapolis.
Grandchildren: Brett, Ryan, Kara, Caden, Dalton, Connor, Sean, Makinleigh and Silas.
Cremation Rites will be accorded. Mike will be laid to rest at the Cumberland Trails Cremation Garden at Washington Park East Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Mike was born in Chicago. In his teenage years the family relocated to Kokomo, Indiana. Mike attended Kokomo High School, graduating in the class of 1966.
After high school Mike continued his education at Ball State University studying education and English. Throughout his professional career Mike was an English Teacher in Warren Township at Stoneybrook Middle School for 33 years. He retired in 2003. Over the years he helped coach his children and other youth in sports in soccer, softball, and golf.
Mike served with the Indiana National Guard for several years and was also a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity at Ball State University.
Mike touched many people throughout his life. From his students and fraternity brothers, to his friends and family. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
