Michael Fuess Secord Patrick

An Indianapolis attorney who spent several years in Tokyo before relocating to the Circle City to practice law passed away December 16, 2018. Michael F.S. Patrick was 46.

Patrick owned his own practice, focusing on intellectual property and family law. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1994, worked for several years in Japan and eventually returned to Indianapolis, where he earned his law degree from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2010.  

Brother George Patrick remembered his younger brother as the life of the party “with a joke and jab for everyone.”

“My brother was always a great one for practical jokes — mostly on me. He was always funny and wrote much like Dave Barry as he was describing life,” George said.

Former business partner and law school friend Mark Hervey agreed, noting Patrick’s amazing sense of humor never failed to make others laugh.

“That was just his personality. If you were feeling bad about something, he would try to make you laugh and try to make some jokes,” Hervey said. “If you were a friend of Michael Patrick, there was literally nothing he would not do for you.”

Patrick is remembered as an uncle who doted on his only niece and spoiled his nephews. He is also remembered as a fierce advocate for his clients, dedicated to every case.

“They need someone to be there for them and that is something I always admired about him,” Hervey said. “He really felt that was his role. And I always respect him for that. He was a very generous man, one of the most generous people you ever met.”

A Memorial Gathering will be held on January 6, 2019 from 1-3pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North. A Memorial Service will begin immediately following at 3pm.
