Michael Dee Surber,

63, of West Newton, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018. Michael was born March 29, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Harold and Mary Surber. He loved sports, but especially loved watching his grandchildren play sports. Michael volunteered his time as a Decatur Township firefighter for 10 years, spent 25 years at YRC Trucking Co. as a truck/dock worker, and a Decatur Township bus driver for 30 years. He was also an active lifetime member at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He loved people and helping his community in any way he could. Michael was a loving father to his 3 children and husband, spending 43 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Teresa.

Michael was preceded in death by both parents; along with several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Teresa (Benedict) Surber; children, Stephanie (Eric), Heather (Donnie), and Bryan (Sarah); brothers, Ron (Sherry) and Steve (Cathy); 8 grandchildren, Kollin, Alivia, Brady, Alec, Bryce, Chandler, Blakley and Benson; as well as many extended family members and a community who loves him dearly.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 3pm-8pm at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 6341 Mann Road, Indianapolis, IN 46221. Additional visitation will be held at the church on Friday, February 23 from 11am-12pm with services to immediately follow at 12pm. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner Buchanan-Decatur. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
