Michael D. Cochran, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away in the early morning hours of September 22, 2020 at his home. He was born in Frankfort, Indiana on March 28, 1949 to the late Robert Dale and Miriam E Hunt Cochran. He retired after over 40 years of employment as a draftsman with American Precast Concrete, Inc. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce A. Allen Cochran, whom he married on October 19, 1974, at Methodist Church in Indianapolis.
Michael could best be remembered by his love of Civil War history, his nieces and nephews, and the Freemasons.
Michael’s love for the Civil War included reading books, watching documentaries, playing strategy board games, visiting Civil War battle grounds, and participating in reenactments. Michael enjoyed spending time at muzzle-loaded rifle shoots and keeping up with long rifle association activities.
Michael was also a dedicated uncle to his three nephews and two nieces. Some of the fondest memories of the nieces and nephews are the times spending the night with their uncle and aunt and staying up way too late playing board games, listening to music, or watching movies. Michael was also dedicated to his remaining dog, Annie, who was his constant and faithful companion.
Michael was an active member of the Indiana Freemasonry. He was a member of the Cumberland Lodge for over 25 years, and of the Oakland Lodge No. 140 where he was an active member and served as Secretary in the past.
Michael is survived by three nephews, Michael Goldsmith of Baton Rouge, LA, Patrick Goldsmith (Lana) of Baton Rouge, LA, Matthew Goldsmith (Joey) of Gonzales, LA; and two nieces, Rachel Proffitt (Brent Wick) and Beth Martin (Craig), both of Lafayette, IN, and one sister-in-law, Billie Thomason (Tom) of Gonzales, LA. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and one of his beloved beagles, Annie.
In addition to his wife and parents, Michael is preceded in death by his sister Cathy Zdarsky and his beloved dogs, Dusty, Duke, Lucky, and Lizzie.
