Michael Craig Rees, 74, passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 6, 2022.
He was born July 25, 1948 in Fort Knox, KY to the late Floyd E. Rees and Irma Joanne (Havlena) Rees and was a long-time Indianapolis resident. He married Eldonna F. Moore (Bennett) on October 3, 1998.
He graduated from North Central High School in 1966. He served as a Flight Simulator Specialist in the Air Force from May 1967 to May 1973 and was stationed at Luke Air Force Base, AZ.
He graduated from Purdue University (Indianapolis) in 1980. He worked in the Information Technology industry for more than 40 years. Toward the end of his career, he was sole proprietor of ProData, LLC before he retired in January 2020.
Mike enjoyed snow skiing, boating, wakeboarding, golfing, Harley- riding, and had a passion for the Boy Scouts and Ham Radio (for which he earned the Amateur Extra Ham Radio license). Mike was an enthusiastic traveler, and along with Eldonna and friends, visited places such as Switzerland, Italy, France and ski resorts throughout the US. He most recently completed a train and cruise excursion to Nova Scotia.
Mike was always curious about how things worked and from an early age he began fixing broken items for his mother and other neighborhood families. He was particularly intrigued by pocket watches, cars, and airplanes.
He always had a smile for everyone and enjoyed making new friends. Many of these friends were with the Indianapolis Ski Club of which he became a member 30 years ago. He served in many offices of the Club, with the most recent being President.
Mike was a proud and loving father of his 3 children, Michelle Rees-Moore (Jason), Michael Christopher Rees, and Jason Rees (Amanda). He was happy to be Grandad to 7 grandchildren: Vance, Owain, Wynter, Rhys, Davis, Jillian, and Audrey.
In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Mike is survived by his brother Kevin Rees, and sister Patricia Rees.
