Michael J. Berglund, 55, of Carmel passed away suddenly on September 26, 2024. He was born on April 9, 1969, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of the late Jeffrey and Gail Marie (Somadelis) Berglund.
As a young child, Mike’s family moved from Massachusetts to Illinois and then settled in Hubertus, Wisconsin. He met his wife, Kate Brockman, in 2003 while both were vacationing in a small town in northern Wisconsin. They married on September 11, 2004, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Carmel, Indiana. In 2006, Kate and Mike had their first child, Greyden Marsh Berglund. Two years later, they welcomed their second child, Gabriel Jeffery Berglund. Mike cherished his family and worked endlessly to make sure they were taken care of and felt loved every day.
Mike was a graduate of Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He continued his education at Boston University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, before transferring to Marquette University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Criminology/Law Studies. Following graduation, Mike joined the Oak Creek Police Department where he was sworn in on January 27, 1992. He worked patrol, became a K9 officer with his partner ‘Pasha’ and was later promoted to Sergeant on June 16, 1997. While serving his community, Mike returned to Marquette University to earn his MBA. Mike and Pasha retired on February 16, 2001.
After retirement, Mike immediately took a job with Eli Lilly and Company where he advanced his career to the position of Executive Director of Corporate Business Development. Mike was a member of the Lilly team for nearly 24 years.
While we lost our beloved husband and father, many have lost a friend and loved one in Mike. He has been a rock to many and no matter what, once you were marked as important to him, he would be by your side if you needed him. There was so much more to him than being a devoted a husband and father, though to us that was his greatest role - he was also a friend, a coworker/colleague, cousin, brother, uncle, and country music lover. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and keeping his sharpshooting skills intact at the range. He loved to entertain and cook, but some of his greatest enjoyments were spending time at the cabin with his family and being with his sons at all their sporting events. He will be forever missed.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Kate Berglund; two sons, Greyden and Gabriel; brother, Eric (Hilliary) Berglund; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter and Catherine Brockman; brother-in-law, Peter (Madeline Kuhlmann) Brockman; and nieces and nephews, Max, Adelaide, Davis, Zoe, and Hutton.
