Michael A. Shafer

Michael A. Shafer 69, of Zionsville, passed away on April 17, 2021. He was born on June 11, 1951 in New Albany, Indiana as the son of Arlin and Edith Shafer. Affectionately known as Mike to friends and loved ones, Mike’s main purpose was sharing the love of Jesus Christ with everyone around him. At a young age, Mike began playing fiddle in his home church. Throughout his young adult years, he grew to love Southern Gospel Music. In 1986, Mike and his wife Cheri, began their own gospel music ministry, Right Spirit. Right Spirit went on to record six studio albums and ministered at countless churches and events. Mike earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Indiana University Southeast; where he graduated with the honor of Accounting Student of the Year. A brilliant mind, Mike went on to acquire his C.P.A.. In 1998, Mike became the Chief Financial Officer for Zionsville Community Schools, where he became respected as a school funding expert. His work there impacted the school community, Town of Zionsville, and Boone County for the better. Michael is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cheri (Jones) Shafer, daughter Rachel Vining (Aaron), granddaughter Camilla Vining, and sister Linda Shafer. He was preceded in death by his father Arlin Shafer and his mother Edith Shafer. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 3pm-7pm at Flanner Buchanan – Zionsville. The family will be holding private funeral services on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 2pm.
