Merit Smith Rumple

Merit Smith Rumple, 98, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.  He was born on October 20, 1923 in Ellettsville, IN to the late Edward and Wilma (Smith) Rumple.

Merit served in the U.S. Army from 1943 – 1946 as a Rifle Marksman; discharged with the rank of Sergeant.  He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 88.

Merit retired in 1985 from Jiffy Van as a furniture mover.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors and exercising.  Merit also loved watching Cubs baseball and IU basketball.  He will be remembered as having an independent spirit and a kind heart.

Merit is survived by his nephew, Stephen Kirk, Sr. and niece, Wilma Keffaber and their extended families.  He is also survived by his close friends that he loved as his grandchildren, Tom Roach, Crystal Roach and her daughter, Chloe Lane; as well as many other friends and neighbors.

At his request, no services will be held.  Merit will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Cremation services entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park.
