Melvin Butler, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at the age of 87. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 10, 1931 to Owen and Louise (Woods) Butler.
Melvin was a devout Christian man with a very big heart; he was a proud member of Castleton Christian Church. He loved serving God and his Country. Melvin joined the Army in 1949 and fought for his Country during the Korean War. For his service he received the Purple Heart and three battle star awards; he was a POW survivor and has been awarded and acknowledged for his bravery during this time.
Melvin married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life Rosan Hodgin in 1954. They were married 52 years until Rosan’s death. From this union came two children, daughter, Tina Marie and son, Larry Jo. He provided for his family by working at Naval Avionics for 30 years. During these wonderful years they enjoyed taking family vacations and camping trips. Melvin also enjoyed spending time with his family, volunteering at the VA Hospital, meeting with his VA and Korean groups and reading his Bible.
Melvin was preceded in death by: his wife Rosan, parents, Owen and Louise Butler; sister Joann and his grandmother Dovie Neville.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his daughter, Tina (Larry) Fouts, and son, Larry Jo (Jackie) Butler; four grandchildren; Cheries Fouts, Brandon Fouts, Chad Butler, and Jeff (Lorna) Butler; one great-granddaughter, Madison; and a host of other relative and friends.
