Maxine Katherine Amigh, 94, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
She was born on September 18, 1929 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Elmer and Clara (Laut) Vahle. Maxine was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and attended Valparaiso University for one year. She married Jack Amigh on April 18, 1953, and they shared almost 65 years together until Jack’s passing in March of 2018. They lived in Pittsburgh for the first four years of marriage before returning to Indianapolis where they raised five children and were very involved with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Maxine was caring, encouraging, and generous. She rarely complained and always had a positive outlook. She made family her priority. Christmas and family birthdays were big celebrations at her house, and every gift was always perfectly and beautifully wrapped. Meals at Grandma’s were always special, and family favorites were “Mama’s Meat Rolls” and the best lasagna ever. She loved nature, music, birds, gardening, and had quite a collection of birdhouses and plates. She had a great sense of humor, a sharp mind, and was amazing at jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, and Sudoku well into her 90’s.
Maxine worked as a paralegal at the law firm of Lowe Gray Steele and Hoffman for many years before retiring. Their offices were in the building formerly known as Bank One Tower, although her grandchildren have always referred to it simply as “Grandma’s building”.
She is survived by her children, Valerie (Don) Wesseling, Richard (Denise) Amigh, Jack (Nikki) Amigh, Jr., Robert (Claudia) Amigh; grandchildren, Rachel, Zachary, Joel, Luke, Tori; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Amigh, and her husband, Jack Amigh, Sr.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan Memorial Park from 12-2pm, with her Celebration of Life immediately following. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
