Mavis Marilyn (Brinson) Hogue, age 85, of Pleasant View, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family, May 31, 2017.
She was born on December 7, 1931 in Ripley County, Indiana to Wilbur Roscoe Brinson Sr. and Cornelia Gladys (Wolf) Brinson. She married James Edward Hogue on October 27, 1950 in Sandusky, Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 31, 1989. James and Mavis were blessed with three daughters, Debbie L. Eggert (Doug), Linda K. Tex (John) and Jill M. Pribble (Roy). They were grandparents to one granddaughter, Stacy L. (Walker) Jarrell (Rick) and four grandsons, John Paul Tex, Scott D. Reasoner, Jason E. Pribble and Justin M. Pribble. She was also blessed to have a very special great-granddaughter, Lily A. Jarrell. She has one surviving sister, Dolly M. (Brinson) Lipperd of Versailles, Indiana and two brothers preceded her in death, Wilbur Roscoe Brinson Jr. and Richard Clair Brinson. She also has many nieces and nephews who lovingly called her “Aunt Mavis.”
Mavis grew up during the great depression on a farm with her parents and brothers and sister. She lost her mother at an early age of 10 but not before learning the skills that would later let her become a loving wife and mother. She was truly a “homemaker”, never having a job outside the home. Her home and children were her “job”. Mavis loved to laugh and never met a stranger.
Mavis loved to hear a good story and join in the laughter. Once in a while she could spin a pretty good yarn herself.
She loved working outdoors in her yard, planting flowers, mowing, and tending to her garden. She enjoyed picking fresh tomatoes, green beans and strawberries when the time was right.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 2pm at Washington Park East Cemetery – 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the National Kidney Foundation, Inc., 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016, or by visiting www.kidney.org.
