Maryann (Layne) Mcmurry

MaryAnn (Layne) McMurry, 76, Carmel, passed away June 8, 2017. She was born December 5, 1940 in Crawfordsville, IN to Gregory M. and Mary Louise (Essex) Layne. She married Frank W. McMurry in October 1956.

Mrs. McMurry graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1960. In 1965, she became a certified as an interior design consultant from the Chicago Institute of Design.

Mrs. McMurry was office administrator for 26 years with American Express Financial Advisors. Upon her retirement in 1998, she joined Carmel Lutheran Church (now Cornerstone Lutheran Church [CLC]) as the Education Assistant for the Family/Youth Ministry, retiring in 2016. Prior to her membership in CLC, Mrs. McMurry was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brownsburg, IN. She was also a member of Tri Kappa social sorority, actively involved in the Valparaiso and Columbus, IN. chapters.

Mrs. McMurry was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimla J. Smith. She is survived by her husband, Frank, a son J-Allen McMurry of Noblesville, IN, a son-in-law Paul J. Smith of Anderson, IN, and a daughter-in-law, Juliette McMurry of Noblesville, IN. Grandchildren include: Khristen Scircle, Erin Carter, Joshua McMurry, Jacob McMurry, and Kaitlyn McMurry. Great grandchildren include: Elijah Hume, Audrey Carter, Griffin Carter, and Elle Carter. She is also survived by a brother David M. Layne and his wife Andrea Layne of Roswell, GA.

A celebration of her life will be held at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, 4850 E. Main St, Carmel, IN on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Pastors Luther Brunette and Dan Schumm will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Inurnment will take place at the Cornerstone Lutheran columbarium, with a light lunch following. Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cornerstone Lutheran Church or Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft Wayne, IN.
