Mary Y. Schnute

Mary Y. Schnute, 89, of Indianapolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 15, 2017.

Mary was born November 28, 1927 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Clyde and Mary Yost. She was a graduate of Bosse High School in Evansville, where as a freshman she met her future husband Dick Schnute. Mary was a 1949 graduate of Indiana University. While at IU, she worked in the Audio Visual Department. Her family owned the Ken Standard Corporation in Evansville where she served as the office manager.

Mary was a charter member of Cornerstone Lutheran Church, Carmel, where she volunteered on several committees. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, St. Margaret's Guild, Fall Creek Garden Club, where she won a first place award for floral arranging. She was past president of the Marion County Medical Auxiliary, was a member of its bowling league and served as secretary of its MMMM Club. Mary won a blue ribbon at the Indiana State Fair for her counted cross stitch entry.

Mary and Dick were world travelers. Mary maintained travel journals from all of their destinations along with a sand collection and clothesline picture collection.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 20 at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, Carmel, with additional visiting from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Mary is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dr. Richard "Dick" Schnute; children, Dr. Karen (husband, Dennis Klembara) Schnute and Richard W. (wife, P.J.) Schnute; "adopted son", Mike Shinn; grandchildren, Doug (wife, Kelsi) Klembara, Amy Klembara, Grant Klembara, Patrick (wife, Missy) Delrymple and Heather (husband, Rob) Gifford; sister, Connie Y. (husband, Darrell) Blanton; nephews, Curt Blanton and Eric Blanton; nieces, Brooke Schnute, Stephanie Jeske and Jennifer Jeske. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Jeske and brother-in-law, Robert W. Schnute.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Lutheran Church or the IU Foundation to the Mary and Richard Schnute Endocrine Fellowship Foundation.
