Mary Ruth Farris Lahman passed away July 1, 2017. She was born March 23, 1931, in Indianapolis, IN, to James William Farris and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Smith Farris. Ruth graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1949, from William Woods College in 1951, and from Butler University in 1953, where she was as member of Pi Beta Phi. She joined Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in 1941 and was a lifelong member there.
In 1955, Ruth married Arthur Wayne Lahman, who preceded her in death in 1993. She is survived by her four daughters, Lisa Carmin (Mike), Karen Murrell (John), Mary Phillips (Jim), and Julia Parker (Tim); her grandchildren, Kristen Carmin Shelley (Mike), Jennifer Carmin McDonald (Sadekie), Lauren Carmin, Andrew Carmin (Stephanie), Kathleen Niederhauser (Jared), Brad Murrell (Kirsty), Sarah Phillips, Lizzie Phillips, Rachel Parker, Daniel Parker and Riley Parker; her great granddaughters, Aurelia Shelley and Sa’nyah McDonald; sisters, Julie Davidson (Dick) and Jean Kinslow, whom preceded her in death, brother, Bill Farris (Kathy), and her beloved cat Socks.
Ruth never knew a stranger and loved nothing more than being with family. She decorated for all holidays, delighted in every new baby, and truly enjoyed weddings – especially the cake. Her sweet, silly nature and broad smile will be missed.
Visitation will be at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church at 12:30 p.m. on July 8th, followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Church or to your local Humane Society in Ruth’s name. Final Arrangements entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple.
