Mary Rita Jamison, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2022. She was born on May 23, 1929 in Louisville, KY to the late Thomas Edward and Cecilia Henrietta (Smith) Hill.
She was married in 1957 to William Leo Jamison. After raising their family of six children, Rita and her husband traveled the world, but home was where her heart was. She enjoyed cooking big family meals and celebrating special occasions, especially Christmas, the Kentucky Derby, and the Indy 500. She loved to sew, quilt, garden, and follow the Colts and Pacers. She was also a 25-year volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital.
Survivors include her children: Michael Hackett, Susan Rothgeb (Robert), Thomas Hackett (Connie), Julie Crusenberry (Jeffery), William Jamison Jr (Lisa), and Elizabeth Curtis (David). Also surviving are grandchildren: Mackey Oldham (Peg), Kasee Carlstedt (Matt), Stephanie Karcher (Mark), Scott Day (Mara), Katy Jamison, Andrew Jamison, Jamie Brimbury, Sam Brimbury, Ryan Curtis (Jenn), and Val Curtis. Great-grandchildren include (alphabetically): Avery, Betty Lou, Carson, Charley, Connor, Ella, Frances, Lily, Patrick, Will, and William. Other family members who survive are her sister-in-law, Jean Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years; her parents; sisters, Dorothy Tuel and Cecilia Hill; and brother, Thomas Hill.
Visitation will be held on her 93rd birthday, Monday, May 23, 2022 from 11 am-12pm at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Connor Suite). Friends and family will toast her life with a funeral service at 12 pm, also at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
