Mary Rachel Hosbein, joined the love of her life, Pat, on January 24, 2022. She was surrounded by family as her wish to join Pat in heaven was granted by her Lord. She is survived by her sister Joanne Hester; two sons, Mark and Tom Hosbein (Paul, her “dickens,” was already with Pat waiting for her) and three daughters Karen Mersereau (Mike Helms), Julie Johns (Rob), and Jayne Grusak (Steve); grandchildren Gage (Lindsay) and Catherine (Dave Altarescu) Mersereau, Alex (departed), Andrew and Rachel Grusak, Samantha McDonald (Aaron), Melanie Whiteman (Brent), Gateston, Kyler, Chasden and Landen Johns, Jennifer (Chad Strum), Justin (Rachel Rettner) and Matthew Helms and great-grandchildren Kyla, Elijah, Sophia, Greyson, Sylvia and River.
Mary was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Frank and Philomena Frederika and attended Catholic all-girls Regina High School. She grew up in a loving Italian home where her steadfast devotion to family and “never know a stranger” personality germinated.
She touched people in a way that’s real and rare; from Marsh to Hallmark and Macy’s, everyone knew “Miss Mary.” She gave steaks to her Macy’s sales reps, right from her purse to the now necessary employee lounge mini-fridge. Online shopping was not the Mary way. She experienced people and showed acts of kindness to strangers across her community. She loved her sports teams; we’re talking 82 Pacer games a year! She loved Peyton Manning, her hometown Reds and hosting her family for the Indianapolis 500. Deeply religious, Mary did more than attend church and give steaks to the priests. She inspired her family with a spirit, warmth and love without judgment. She spent her final years in the comfort of her home under the loving care of her son, Tom, taking in the view of the backyard pond with her pets. She made you somehow feel more full inside when you left than when you came, both in food and spirit. In lieu of donations, please honor Mary with acts of kindness towards strangers, leaving your community full of the warmth she shared.
