Mary Margaret Campion O’Connor, 98 of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024 surrounded by her family. Mary Margaret was born June 15, 1925 in Nashville, TN to the late Owen and Margaret Campion.
Mary Margaret was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church. She resided at Marquette Manor for 18 years and was recognized as Marquette Volunteer of the Year having served as a Marquette Ambassador and Floor Chairman as well as volunteering in the gift shop and library. She was recognized several times as the Marquette Athletic Center Member of the Month, and most recently received that honor just 4 months before she passed away. She and her husband, Bill, also served in many ministries at St. Henry Catholic Church and St. Thomas Hospital before moving to Indianapolis. Their pastor described their ministry work as “filled with grace and the love of the Holy Spirit.”
Mary Margaret lived her life in service to others, offering a smile and a wink to all she passed in the hallway, and she was especially kind to the staff at Marquette. One of her greatest sacrifices for her children was moving away from her friends and church in Nashville and the home she had been in for 45 years in order to make it easier for her daughters in case of illness.
Private family inurnment will take place at Our Lady of Peace Mausoleum Chapel. Mary Margaret will be remembered at Marquette’s monthly Day of Remembrance May 30 at 1:30 and the Marquette Chapel Mass June 15.
Margaret was the widow of William C. O’Connor. She is survived by her brother Monsignor Owen Campion, her children, Marianne (husband, Francis) Price, Margaret O’Connor and Thomas W. (wife, Terri) O’Connor; grandchildren, Patrick, Mark. Diane, and David Price and Brennan O’Connor; and great-grandchildren, Miguel, Mariana, Nicolas, Raisa, Isaac, Sebastian, Catalina, and Evelyn, and many friends.
