Mary Bridget McGovern

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Bridget McGovern from Zionsville Indiana. She passed away on September 29, 2024, at the age of 86.

 Mary Bridget McGovern was born to Patrick and Monica Byrne on June 16, 1938, in Kilcar, Ireland. Mary embraced life in the United States at the age of 16, driven by the hope of realizing her American dream.

A devout member of Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church, Mary’s unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her favorite sayings, "Jesus, Mary, Joseph" and "The Lord Will Provide," were not just words but reflections of her deep relationship with God. She inspired everyone around her, sharing her history and love for Ireland with warmth and enthusiasm.

Mary was blessed with seven children: Sean McGovern (Angie), Maureen Leland (Mike), Eileen McGovern, Michael McGovern, James McGovern II (Mandy), Cathleen McGovern, and Glen McGovern. Her family expanded to include 12 grandchildren: Neka Maddox, Stefanie McGovern, Jarrett Leland (Ashley), Sean K. McGovern, Maggie Roark (Kevin), Miranda Senteney (Adam), Fiona Quigley, Quinn McGovern (Shania), Logan McGovern, Alec McGovern, Regan Quigley, and Jenna McGovern. She also celebrated the joy of three great-grandchildren.

Mary is preceded in death by her brothers Daniel and Patrick Byrne, sons Glen and Michael McGovern, and grandchildren Neka and Logan. Her light touched not only her family but the entire community, as she consistently answered the call to do God’s work.

A woman who took immense pride in her grandchildren, Mary delighted in spending time with them and nurturing their dreams. She enjoyed day trips from her independent living home along with lunch dates at her favorite restaurants.

Mary's spirit will continue to live on in the cherished memories she created with each of us. She will be deeply missed by her family in the United States and the loved ones she held dear in Ireland. May her soul rest in peace, and may her legacy of love, faith, and resilience inspire all who knew her.

The funeral will be held at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church located at 1870 W Oak St, Zionsville, IN on October 7 at 10:00am.
