Mary Elizabeth McGinnis Schmidt

Mary Elizabeth McGinnis Schmidt, Indianapolis, age 90, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025. Mary was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and a cherished member of the community, and a devoted Christian.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Albert Hunt and Pauline (Konkle) Hunt, her husbands, Carl E. Schmidt and George McGinnis, and two of her children—a son, Michael E. Schmidt, and a daughter, Mickie Dillard. Her family was always her heart and soul, and her deep love for them was evident in everything she did.

Mary was the proud owner and operator of Villager’s Salon in Broad Ripple for many years, where she touched the lives of countless clients with her kindness, skill, and dedication. Her salon became a home away from home for many, and she formed lasting friendships with everyone who walked through her doors.

A true animal lover, Mary found comfort and joy in the companionship of her pets. She was also an avid viewer of Fox News, where she enjoyed keeping up with the latest happenings.

Above all, Mary was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, and she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength.

Mary will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and Indy Humane.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 11-1 pm at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive Indianapolis, IN 46228. A celebration of Mary’s life will follow at 1 pm. Burial will be held at Washington Park North Cemetery.
