Mary Mae Hart

Mary Mae Hart of Westfield, IN passed away peacefully on July 4^th, 2023 at age 93.

Mary was born August 18, 1929 to Frank and Ruth Bell. Mary was the last surviving sibling of her 3 sisters (Colleen, Francis, and Rose Marie) and 2 brothers (Wayne and Frank). They grew up on a farm in Rensselaer, Indiana.  She graduated in 1948 from Fair Oaks High School in a class of 8.

She is survived by her daughters Roberta Gardner and Becky Mills (Charlie), her grandsons Evan (Maxie) and Matthew, and great-grandchildren Valerie Rose and Theodore James.  She has many nieces and nephews across the country.

She was married to Robert E. Hart from 1955 to 1977.  She worked at a local dime store and in the Hart family business for many years. She retired as a housekeeper at Carmel Care Center after 25 years of service.

Mary was creative and talented. She was an accomplished seamstress, and she enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, and painting.  She was a great cook and baker, famous for her noodles, meatloaf, and a variety of pies. She also was a self-taught organist.

Mary was quiet, kind, resilient, and hardworking.  She was a wonderful mother, providing for her girls despite many obstacles. She will be greatly missed by her family.

The family would like to thank the staff of Maple Park Village and Anew Hospice for their compassion and care for Mary during her illness.

A private family graveside service took place at Flanner Buchanan – Hamilton Memorial Park.
