Mary went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2017. She was a longtime and active member of Covenant Baptist Church where her infant faith was nurtured and her family raised. In later years, as a member of Lynhurst Baptist Church, she served faithfully in their food pantry ministry seeking to encourage and bless many. She also was a leader for Bible Study Fellowship.

Mary was a proud Indiana University retiree. She was an avid Colts fan (A season ticket holder since 1983) proudly supporting her Colts gear from head to toe. She was always up for new challenges and adventures, loved traveling, hiking, and exercising. Even up to a few months before her death she was attending her beloved circuit training exercise class three times a week. Mostly, Mary liked to root and cheer on others. Whether it was her children, grandchildren or nephews and nieces, she loved to watch others do their thing and tell them what a good job they did.

Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Russell, infant daughter Denise, grandson Andrew Chastain, great granddaughter Caden Joelle, and two brothers. She is survived by her brother, Robert Smith, daughters Debra (Tim) Chastain, Diane Kennedy, and son Jay R. (Jan) Kennedy, 5 grandchildren, 4 and ½ great grandchildren and a whole host of family and friends. Donations may be made to Lynhurst Baptist Church.
