Mary Lou Montgomery

Mary Lou Montgomery, age 85 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Friday morning, October 4, 2024.

Mary Lou was born on September 26, 1939 in Terre Haute, Indiana, a daughter of David George and Mary Juanita (Osmon) Came.

Mary Lou married John Montgomery on July 21, 1961 in Waveland, Indiana . She is survived by her husband of 63 years.

She is also survived by their two children: Craig (Holly) Montgomery of Seymour, Indiana, and Lori (Harold) Olin of Greenfield, Indiana.

Five grandchildren: Caleb Olin, Joshua (Carlie) Olin, Leah Olin, Seth Montgomery, and Sydney Montgomery.

Mary Lou grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana. She attended Wiley High School in Terre Haute, graduating class of 1957. She graduated in 1961 from Indiana State University where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She later received advanced degrees from Indiana State and Butler University. Throughout Mary Lou’s professional career, she worked in special education and went on to be the Testing Coordinator/Director of Assessment at Ivy Tech State College. She was also a co-founder at a pre-school co-op at Oaklandon Christian Church. She retired from Ivy Tech in 2004. Mary Lou and John enjoyed many years of retirement, traveling to various parts of the United States and Canada. 

She greatly enjoyed sewing and quilting, making quilts and other prized possessions for those she loved. Together Mary Lou and John attended Outlook Christian Church for many years.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Geist Funeral Center, located at 7855 Cork Road, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Her funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. Senior Minister Rob McCord of Outlook Christian Church will officiate.

Burial with procession will follow to Oaklandon Cemetery where Mary Lou will be laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Outlook Christian Church in memory of Mary Lou.
