Mary L Johnson-Gibbs-Henson

Mary L. Henson, 83, Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on August 28, 2018. She was born August 7, 1935 to Paul and Hattie Johnson in Russellville, Kentucky; one of 8 siblings.

Mary worked for RCA as a record tester for 23 years until her retirement in 1977. Not people can say they saw Elvis at RCA in 1959 when he signed his record deal, but she sure could. She met and married the love of her life, Herbert Henson, in 1964 after being neighbors for many years. They remained deeply in love upon his passing in 2008. Mary loved her family, especially her grandkids. She had a great sense of humor and could best be described as spunky. She enjoyed genealogy, square dancing, and collecting odds and ends like many people of her generation. In her earlier years, she loved traveling with her family in their RV, gardening, sewing, and crocheting. She was a one of a kind lady and will be sorely missed by all those who were lucky enough to meet her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert W. Henson, Sr; son, Kenneth Gibbs, Jr.; siblings, Pauline, Boyd, Harold, Patsy, and an infant sister who passed away shortly after birth. Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons, Darrell (Cynthia) Gibbs, Wayne (Connie) Henson, Gary (Cindy) Henson; siblings, Irene Gooch and Ray Johnson; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.

All are invited to visit Thursday, August 30 from 4-7 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46221. Funeral services will take place Friday, August 31 at 11 AM at the funeral home. Mary will be laid to rest at Odd Fellows Cemetery-Waverly immediately following services.
