Eulogy

Mary Kay was the loving and caring wife to Bob and mother to Jen, Kelli, and Michelle. She was also the extraordinary grandmother to seven beautiful grandchildren.

Growing up as the family “baby” Mary Kay was a daddy’s girl. She graduated from Pike High School. As a young adult, she met Bob at St. Monica Church. After a few weeks of talking after Mass, Bob had the nerve to ask her out and she said yes. The rest as you say is history and they were married in 1979.

After marriage came motherhood. She raised her daughters possibly with the idea of perfecting the technique for later use with her grandchildren. With her daughters there were a few bumps in the road. As examples, she twice locked her young daughters in the car and required rescue. Another time without interaction from Bob (or so he claims), she successfully removed a tick along with a bit of singed hair from Jen’s head with a lit match. Minus these and a few other minor bumps, she did a remarkable job raising her wonderful daughters and one might add Bob as a stay-at-home mom and wife.

As her daughters grew up, married, and had their own children, Mary Kay became an extraordinary grandmother. With the bumps worked out after raising her daughters, she was able to watch as many as four grandchildren at once throughout the school year. She has been a second mother to all seven. Her daughters and Bob were amazed at her ability to not only watch them but to organize activities for her precious grandchildren with nearly 100% non-conflict participation. Besides the daytime daycare, she was available 24/7 to help them when needed.

Mary Kay leaves behind besides her family, many relatives, and friends. Many of her skills as a mother translated to relationships with her relatives and friends. She was a compassionate and caring listener and was able to offer helpful advice when listening was not enough.

Her interests when there was time to relax: included time with family and friends; reading; traveling, visiting lighthouses and especially trips to Ireland; and music concerts with groups such as the Texas Tenors, Neil Diamond, The Lettermen, and The Four Seasons.

To sum up Mary Kay’s life in a few paragraphs does not do it justice. Sadly, it is time to allow our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, relative, and friend to be on her journey.

May Mary Kay rest in Peace and let the Perpetual Light shine upon her.
