Mary Katherine Summers

Mary Katherine (Brandt) Summers, 87, died on January 22, 2021. She graduated from Ben Davis High School and then went on to become a career military wife and a full-time mother of two while her husband was deployed. She was known for having a big heart and caring for others, including helping to care for her siblings from a young age, and looking after her granddaughter as she got older. She always had an open door and a basket of toys waiting for any kids that came to visit.

Throughout her life, she found joy in doing a multitude of different activities and odd jobs such as working at an insurance company, serving kids lunch at the local high school, driving a semi, and even managing a building full of residents at a retirement community. Mary was a firm believer and a member of the Zion Evangelical Church of Christ, and she enjoyed spending her free time working with the Wayne Township Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary or working the polls on Election Day.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Warren. Surviving her are her two sons, Bud and Steve Summers; her sister, Betty Franklin; and her brothers, Herman, Richard, David, Dean, and Charles Brandt. She also leaves behind three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Due to the pandemic, there will be no visitation or service, burial will be at Floral Park Cemetery.
