Mary "Johnnie" Miller

Mary "Johnnie" Miller, 87, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on April 9, 2018. She was born November 25, 1930 in Clay County, Tennessee to Virgil and Flossie Scott. She moved from Tennessee when she was only 13 years old. Mary became a permanent resident of Indiana, where most people remember her as "Johnnie" due to a loving minister giving her that nickname as a child. She later met the love of her life, Miles Miller, in 1949 and the two married on May 12, 1950. They spent 67 wonderful years together prior to her passing, where they built a life and family together. Her family remembers her as a woman who was loved by all, genuine, and always ready to do the right thing. She was a devout Christian and attended Church of Christ South Keystone. In the past, she was also a member at Northeast Church of Christ, where she loved teaching Sunday school and working in the church nursery.  Johnnie was a natural caregiver, who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed playing Scrabble, Aggravation, and doing puzzles when she wasn't busy bookkeeping for her husband's business, Miller's Welding.  She was a once in a lifetime lady; she leaves behind a beautiful legacy. Johnnie is preceded in death by her parents; children, Shelia, Jerry, and Terry; 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Surviving to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 67 years, Miles; children, Deborah (Keith) Huesman, Rhonda (Terry) Morgan, Beth (Mike) Martin; 15 grandchildren, numerous loving great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, church family, as well as a host of extended family members and friends. Family wishes to recognize niece, Sharon Long, for the time and love she devoted in caring for Johnnie. Family and friends may visit Sunday, April 15 from 2-6 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46221. A funeral service will be held Monday, April 16 at 12 PM at the funeral home. Johnnie will be laid to rest at Floral Park Cemetery immediately following services.
