Mary Elizabeth O’Neal Lee, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away on June 10, 2018. Mary was born in Bloomington, IN on June 8, 1937 to her parents, Fred L. and Geneva (Williams) O’Neal. She grew up in Brownsburg, IN and graduated from Brownsburg High School. Mary went on to attend Butler University and graduated from Indiana University with her Bachelors degree in Education. She worked for Allison’s Transmission as a secretary before taking a position teaching second grade in the Plainfield School Systems. Mary left her position teaching so that she could devote her time to raising her family with her husband, John David “J.D.” Lee. Once her children were older, Mary was very proud to have gone back into the workforce working for MC Sporting Goods.
Mary was an avid college basketball fan, especially IU, and was a very talented landscaper and gardener. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be lovingly missed by all who knew her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Geneva and husband, J.D. She is survived by her daughter, Stacia “Staci” Lee Yeoman; son, Scott Lee (Kristen); grandchildren: Hayden and Dane Yeoman and Hudson and Makenna Lee; and close cousin, John O’Neal.
Services will be private. Charitable contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
