Mary Elaine Ramp, 87, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away April 4, 2019. She was born January 31, 1932 in Hillsbrough, Ohio to Densyl and Rosella Custer; she was the oldest of 9 children. Though born in Ohio, Mary moved to Indiana with her family in 1979. Mary met the love of her life, Norman Ramp II, at Atlanta Bible College. The pair met in an unusual way, they found each other at the end of a string. They both attended a mixer at the school where their shoes were tied to the end of the string; the other was waiting at the end. Mary and Norman hit it off right away and were married in 1952. They spent 41 years together raising their four children and building a beautiful life together. They remained deeply in love when Norman passed on August 21, 1993. Mary started attending Valley Mills Christian Church in 1983, where she was a faithful servant of the Lord for 36 years. She retired in 2003 from the IU School of Nursing where spent 25 dutiful years as the secretary to the dean of students. Mary loved to collect rocks, which her children claim made her the easiest person to find souvenirs for. She also loved seashells, lighthouses, doing jigsaw puzzles, and reading. She enjoyed camping in her younger days and was a talented piano player. Though Mary's passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of those who were blessed enough to meet her, peace can be found in knowing she loved the Lord and we will see her again one day. She is preceded in death by her parents, Densyl and Rosella; sisters, Ruthie and Carolyn. Surviving to cherish her memory are children, Angel (John) Lewis, Chris (Amy) Ramp, Becky (Dan) Wilcoxon, Ted (Robin) Ramps; siblings, Marilyn, Bill, Eileen, Viva, Cecy, Seth; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family, church family, and friends. Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 4-8 PM at Valley Mills Christian Church, 5555 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46221. Funeral services will take place Thursday, April 11 at 10 AM at the church. Mary will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Valley Mills Christian Church.
