November 25, 1932 — January 12, 2025

Indianapolis

Mary K. Ballard, 92, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, in her hometown of Indianapolis, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on November 25, 1932, Mary graced the world with her vibrant spirit and unwavering strength. She leaves behind a legacy that is defined by her love for family, her independence, and an eye for perfection that colored everything she touched.

Mary was always known for her spirited personality—a blend of stubbornness and fun that made her truly unique. Throughout her life, she embraced her passions wholeheartedly, giving herself over to the simple joys of her favorite activities. Fishing held a special place in her heart, and even in her older years, she could be seen going out on her own to find the perfect spot, demonstrating her remarkable independence. Her love for gardening transformed her yard into a sanctuary, a reflection of both her nurturing character and her dedication to beauty.

As a proud mother and grandmother, her greatest accomplishments were undoubtedly her family.

She is survived by her cherished daughter, Jennifer (Jack) Dossey, and her beloved grandson, Jack (Kelsey) Dossey III. Mary fostered deep connections with her family, filling their lives with laughter and warmth. She had a unique ability to drive her family crazy in the most loving ways, reminding them all of the value of joy and light-heartedness.

Though Mary will be deeply missed, her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Ballard, the love of her life, as well as her father Earl Eaker, her mother Laverne Eaker, and her brothers and sisters. They are now united again in eternity.

Friends and family are invited to honor Mary’s life during visitation services on January 20, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East in Indianapolis. In celebrating her remarkable spirit and indomitable will, we remember a woman who deeply loved and was deeply loved in return—who lived life on her own terms, always finding time to enjoy the things she cherished most.
