Mary Alice Warble, age of 93, passed away during her sleep on Tuesday, November 8th 2017 at Rosewood Village. Mary was there for a short period of time until she was able to return to her long time residence of Greenwood, Indiana.
Mary was born January 14th 1924 in Akron, Ohio to the late Sarah Mc Ree (Ferguson) and Omer Mc Ree. She was the middle child of 2 siblings, one preceded in her death. Growing up through the depression, she moved fifteen different times during elementary school before finally graduating from Southport High School in 1942. She told stories of her love for candy and was determined that she would never be deprived again throughout her life.
Her strong will and determination led her to campaign for the Republican Party for political office in the early 1950s. She was later awarded The Sagamore of the Wabash for her contributions to the state of Indiana by the Governor of Indiana. It was 1955 when she purchased a small blue home on the south side of Indpls located at South Shelby Street. This was the first location of Maria’s Pizza and many others around Indpls and suburbs. She claimed that Maria’s Pizza was the first pizza business in Indianapolis at that time. She was entered into Indiana Law as, “The Pizza Queen of Indiana”. She loved the business and believed that she was able to help so many people in various ways throughout the years. She believed the business to be a blessing to both to herself and to her family.
She was always kind hearted and enjoyed giving back to her family and anyone in need. She loved to laugh and meet people. She never met a stranger. She was loved by many throughout the years. She enjoyed playing poker with “the boys” for Super Bowl, going to the casino playing the penny slots, and her two Maltese dogs that gave her great joy and comfort.
