Mary Alice Moore Eckert, Beloved wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4th, surrounded by family members. Her unwavering faith, her generous character, and her infectious smile will be missed dearly. Mary Alice (97) was born on June 1st, 1925, in Danville, Illinois, to Charles B. Moore and Inez O. Acton Moore.
Upon graduating from Indiana Central College with degrees in Chemistry and Biology, she married Agnew R. Eckert. Together for 44 years, Mary Alice and Agnew were devoted Christians and members of Christian Park Reformed Church in Indianapolis. They volunteered countless hours of their time serving the community and witnessing to all. In the early years of her career, Mary Alice worked as a chemist; she later served as an IRS instructor teaching taxpayer services federal agents. Throughout her entire life, she took great pride in maintaining her family farm in Danville, IL.
To know Mary Alice was to know her love of nature, her love of the arts, and her love of corresponding with family and friends. Mary Alice was an avid traveler exploring all parts of the world; she loved to learn and to share all of her knowledge with her family and friends.
Mary Alice is survived by her three children: Mary Ann (Dallas) Sutton, Richard Eckert, Jeanie (Tim) Sullivan, daughter-in-law Mary Eckert, 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Agnew R. Eckert, her son Robert Eckert, her sister Betty Browning, and her brother Benton (Ina Claire) Moore.
Visitation for Mary Alice will be from 10-12pm on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Irvington Presbyterian Church 55 Johnson Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46219, with a funeral service immediately following. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
