Martha L. (Auch) Moorhead

Martha L. (Auch)Moorhead, 85, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2017. Martha was a much lovedWife, Mother and Grandmother born into a tight-knit German-American family onthe eastside of Indianapolis. The youngest of five children born to Fred and Frieda(Alfke) Auch, Martha was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. She was amember of Tech’s “Cokes Club” and remained close friends with other clubmembers throughout her life. Martha met her husband Jack Moorhead, a friend ofher older brothers, in high school and they married in 1950. They were married for sixty-six years.

Martha andJack welcomed two sons, Karl and Kevin, in the 1950’s and ensured they becamegood citizens by “encouraging” them to participate in Boy Scouts. While raisingher family, Martha worked as a secretary at James E. Roberts School #97 and wasan active volunteer with many organizations, including Old Bethel UnitedMethodist Church, Oasis and Community East Hospital. She was also a member of Englewood OES483. Martha and Jack enjoyed travelingin retirement, highlights including a trip to Switzerland and taking theirgrandchildren on trips to Washington, DC. She never missed a choir concert,soccer game, wrestling match or 4H fair that Kevin’s children participated in,and regularly made trips to Wisconsin to visit Karl’s children.

Martha is precededin death by her parents, Fred and Frieda Auch; four siblings, Walter, Norma,Carl and Edwin; and daughter by marriage, Martha, we are certain welcomed herthrough the pearly gates with polka music and a family picnic. She is survivedby her husband, Jack; sons, Karl and Kevin; daughters by marriage, Susan andKathy; and grandchildren, Kristina, Ken, Katie, Laura and Griffin.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. Entombment in Washington Park East Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 PM and on Tuesday from 10AM until the service time.
